Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important representative stated the incident rendered him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
